Preview Nhl 2008-09 Western Conference

The Detroit Red Wings escaped the pack last season to win back the trophy from the President and continued with a Cup win of the power is clearly in the west of the NHL. This is how the West is shaping up heading into the 2008-09 campaign

Winners Division:

1. Detroit Red Wings – The Champions Cup defense to win the Central, West, and the Presidents' Trophy again. Difficult that is to believe, the wings actually improved the acquisition of the summer prize free agent Marian Hossa. Ty Conklin also added a backup starting goalie Chris Osgood. The only noticeable loss team win the Cup is the future Hall of Famer, Dominik Hasek, who was relegated to back of last season destination. The wings will be led by Henrik Zetterberg and Nicklas Lidstrom Pavel Datsyuk with the support of the blue line. The supporting cast is as good as any team in history. The Stanley Cup hangover, the powers of the Pacific and the stars of aging are those that stand between the wings and a second straight Cup.

2. Dallas Stars – The Stars made two key purchases this summer, especially Sean Avery. Avery is a pest that carries great opponents and teammates crazy with his tactics. He can be an effective actor, but sometimes goes overboard. It was acquired in a rematch with the Red Wings in mind. The other player signed this summer is a bit of a wild card: Fabian Brunnstrom requested was a big free agent out of Sweden. The stars are banking on Brunnstrom be able to live up to the hype surrounding the auction for his services last spring. Long Stu Barnes retired star free agent, and Niklas Hagman went to Toronto and were the only two defeats of the note of the list last year that led to the wings at the end of the Conference. The stars who are led by Brenden Morrow who bravely battles every shift and are backed by Marty Turco, who has lost his reputation flop playoffs the last two springs. Time is running out in the stars, if they want to charge in the Cup and Sergei Zubov and Mike Modano are approaching 40.

3. Edmonton Oilers – The Oilers were very active in the summer in the commercial market. Sniper acquired Erik Cole from the Carolina Hurricanes victorious under Joni Pitkanen. Jarret Stoll is not at the level of his potential last season and was sent to Los Angeles for Lubomir Visnovsky to reproduce Barrio. Finally Raffi Torres was sent to Columbus for Gilbert Brulé young, who has struggled to beat in the league since he was a first selection by the Blue Jackets. The Oilers have plenty of talented young players to build around, Ales Hemsky led by 2007 first round Sam Gagner and Andrew Cogliano second player. Stations as veterans Shawn Horcoff Dustin Penner, and Steve Stai are mostly core young but experienced. Stai Visnovsky behind and the blue line is a group of mostly strangers who played above expectations last season. Mathieu Garon was cut loose by Los Angeles and arrived in Edmonton with little fanfare. In November, he had taken the trouble # 1 goalie Dwayne Roloson holder and put in a performance all stellar. The Oilers are clearly a team on the rise.

Playoff teams:

4. San Jose Sharks – The Sharks seeks to dispel the theory that they are a team of the regular season and just enjoy playoff success. They fired coach Ron Wilson after another cup race failed and replaced him with former assistant coach Todd McLellan Red Wings to get his first chance as head of the bank. The Sharks saw trade deadline acquisition Brian Campbell bolt through free agency, but acquired Dan Boyle defense (an update on Campbell) in a trade for Matt Carle inconsistent child. The agent free blue liner Rob Blake will bring winning experience to replace Craig Rivet sharks that was sent to a selection. No significant changes were made the base forward and improvement must come from within. Patrick Marleau needs to recover from a season that saw its production drop by 13 goals and 30 points.

5. Anaheim Ducks – The Ducks had a rough start last season is to win the Stanley Cup, short summer, and a trip to Europe to begin the season. Scott Niedermayer returned to the lineup after contemplating retirement in December and the Ducks went on a tear, only to fall to Dallas in the first round when the lack of disciplinary measures sunk. Niedermayer and Selanne who also played on until half of the season, will be aboard for the start of this season. Brendan Morrison was added through free agency and fill the gap left by the second line center Andy McDonald trade. Todd Bertuzzi was disappointing last year after being signed as agent free and was bought out this summer. Last year, the acquisition of other Mathieu Schneider was traded away to make the lid. Ducks are counting on all ducks in a row to start the season to make better playoff positioning.

6. Chicago Black Hawks – As morbid as it sounds this life was breathed into the franchise when the owner Bill Wirtz died time and Rocky's son took over. The Hawks had fallen on hard times, but solid drafting by GM Dale Tallon is being complemented by the major free-agent signings in a bid to boost the once proud franchise back into the bowl of contenders. Dynamic rookie Jon Toews and Pat Kane came into the spotlight Windy City and became stars. Patrick Sharp acquired by a bag of pucks for the Flyers 36 emerged as a goal scorer. Duncan Keith became one of the most valued league blue shirts. Only injuries to Martin Havlat and Nikolai Khabibulin held since Chicago made the playoffs. Brian Campbell and Cristobal Huet signed lucrative contracts. Jason Williams is the only player of consequence to leave Chicago. Look for development constant Cam Barker and Brent Seabrook join Campbell and Keith to form one of the most formidable top 4 blue lines in the league – all under 30 years of age. There are plenty of young talent coming up through the system, such as David Bolland, skille Jack, Kyle Beach, Corey Crawford and Akim Aliu to fill the list in the next two seasons as the Falcons looking to end the longest drought of the Stanley Cup in the league (48 years).

7. Calgary Flames – This team was very disappointing last season. The team had the talent to win the Northwest, but barely squeaked into the playoffs, obviously do not respond to the coaching of Mike Keenan. You look for Keenan to be fired and replaced by the only coach of this team seems to respond to, GM Darryl Sutter. Soft players Alex Tanguay (traded to Montreal) and Kristian Huselius (Left as a free agent) are gone and replaced by Mike Cammalleri (trade) and Todd Bertuzzi (highly unpopular signing free agent in Calgary) 2007 first round Mikael Backlund is expected to increase in the top six forwards. The major concern last season was erratic play Calgary goalie Miikka Pardo, who appeared shaken after another 70 + game season. Finding a reliable backup to detect the Finnish and keep it fresh for the playoffs is essential for success.

8. Phoenix Coyotes – Another young team that has built up young talent and make a playoff push in 2009. The Yotes made a splash in the draft when they acquired gifted center Olli Jokinen Florida Panthers defenders Keith Ballard and Nick Boynton. Coyotes also signed little-known but steady rearguard Kurt Sauer, formerly of the Colorado Avalanche. Kyle Turris, first-round pick in 2007 made his season debut after college, and seems ready for prime time. Look for Gretzky as coach promoted to second-line before Christmas and for the child to thrive. The Coyotes had two first round picks in 2008, Mikkel Boedker and Viktor Tikhonov and both have the opportunity to an impact this season. The Coyotes will have Shane Doan leadership and goals, while Peter Mueller will look to improve on its target remaining 22, 54 season rookie point. Coyotes season turned around last year with the acquisition of Ilya Bryzgalov waiver goalkeeper and former Ducks backup will be key their struggle for postseason participation.

On the outside looking in:

9. Minnesota Wild – The Wild One was heated at the right time last year and were able to win the Northwest Division. Were quickly beaten in the first round of the playoffs by the Avalanche. The Wild signed Andrew Brunette re-treads and Owen Nolan (the world's oldest 36 years old) to replace Brian Rolston and Pavol Demitra who bolted through agency.Marek free Zidlicky (trade) and Marc-Andre Bergeron (free agent) are added to provide offense from the blue line. Now is the time for Benoit Pouliot to strengthen and contribute and if he is not ready James Sheppard is getting an injection. The first defense of the wild risk losing free agent Marian Gaborik next season because he is tired playing in a suffocating environment and offensive may be required to change if the season is to the south by the deadline.

10. Vancouver Canucks - Injuries took the Canucks to the playoffs last season and not make a splash in free agency will keep them there. The Canucks stunned the league offered Toronto Captain Mats Sundin $ 20 million and two seasons Sundin upped the ante by not having it. The captain Markus Naslund and center Brendan Morrison left as free agents leaving a hole in the top six team forward. The Canucks were a team on the offensive and challenged and hope that free agent Pavol Demitra signing, Toronto Maple Leafs Kyle Wellwood discarded (which is talented, but not great work ethic), and former first round Sharks Steve Bernier to take some of the offensive load off of Sedin twins. The Canucks have a solid blue line in June led by Kevin Bieksa and Mattias Ohlund, but it is a profound unity and when the injuries are bound to hit the Nucks complete the line up card. The strength of the Canucks is between the pipes where Roberto Luongo kept the Canucks in games almost every night.

11. Columbus Blue Jackets – The Hummer is the only team ever to the playoffs and does not expect that to change in 2009 despite a reorganization that should see performance improvement team last season. The disappointing team get rid of Nikoli Zherdev, Dan Fritsche traded along with frequent damage to the Rangers Fedor Tyutin and solid defense official Christian Backman. They also traded first-round flop Gilbert Brulé to Edmonton for Raffi Torres extreme nature. Free agent Kristian Huselius added goals for the BJS and Mike Commodore was overpaid to add depth to the blue line, but overall the blue line is thin. Young Derick Brassard, Jakub Voracek Filatov and Nikita, all recent first round selections will be given every opportunity to make the team and contribute. Pascal Leclaire had an exceptional campaign 2007-08, but again was slowed by injuries. Any chance of the jackets have to make the playoffs rests on the shoulders of the healthy Leclaire.

12. Nashville Predators – Despite getting emptied in the summer of 2007, the Predators were able to surprise and make the playoffs last season, giving a possible winner cup Detroit a run for their money (and driving Dom Hasek to retirement). Again, not much is expected of the Predators. There were no key acquisitions, and Mason, Chris and Marek Zidlicky was dealt away. Predators have developed well and have started to restock the cupboard, after trading for Peter Forsberg last two seasons. They fill the holes from inside. Ville Koistinen is expected to fill the void created by trade and Pekka Rinne Zidlicky will promote a backup Dan Ellis, and possibly challenge for the place boot. The Preds are well coached by Barry Trotz, who does not receive the praise it deserves for the work he has done making the Predators competitive despite the turmoil around the franchise (ownership issues and the list of cut)

13. Colorado Avalanche – How the mighty have fallen. The last hurray Avs ended with a whimper last spring, as they were beaten like mules rented hated rival the Detroit Red Wings in the Conference Semi Final. That could be the Significant recent games room Joe Sakic of the race of fame. The Avs lost supporting role players Jeff Finger, Andrew Brunette and Kurt Sauer to free agency, but loss of key game was goalkeeper Jose Theodore. The team responded by signing Andrew Raycroft Toronto cast offs and Darcy Tucker. This is equivalent to putting a knife butter for a shootout. The start-up goalie spot now falls on the shoulders of Petr Budaj weak who fought before losing the job back to Theodore. This will be the most bleak winter as the Avalanche arrived from Quebec City in 1995.

The Tavares Sweepstakes:

14. Los Angeles Kings – Los Angeles Kings are about to start their climb out of the abyss hockey. GM Dean Lombardi has done a great job of selections Storage and young talents. Unfortunately for Kings fans this season will be the year of his return to the playoffs, but show reason for hope. Up front Jarrett Stoll was acquired and replaces Mike Cammalleri (traded) in the top team in June. Rob Blake (free agent) and Lubomir Visnovsky (trade) to the traditional line Blue left the team and will be replaced by the high draft choices Drew Doughty and Thomas Hickey. Young Jack Johnson, Teddy Purcell, Colten Teubert will be called to play larger roles in the team. Anze Kopitar is becoming a superstar and is supported by the dynamics and the future captain Alex Frolov Dustin Brown. In Jonathan Bernier's goal to have every opportunity to win the No. 1 with Erik Ersberg been required if the prospect is not ready. Back up Jason LaBarbera to win the job. There will be hockey at the Staples Center in April, but the possibility of future cup run will give fans hope.

15. St. Louis Blues – Blues showed great promise last season before falling in the package. Is there any chance they had to create an environment in 2008-09 went out the window when blue line pole Erik Johnson had an accident with a golf cart. This may force 2008 first round pick Alex Pietrangelo in the lineup sooner than he is ready. Chris Mason was acquired through trade, Ryan Johnson left as a free agent Jamal Mayers was changed, but they were hardly moving impact. Blues have continued development of promising young David Backes, TJ Oshi, David Perron, Patrik Berglund and. The Blues are a blue lining below a top six competent but without Johnson and protect struggleto Mason and Manny Legace. Brad Boyes stepped up last season and another superhuman effort required to keep the Blues in the race.

You can also use the utility strap to secure a flashlight or store your ear protection at the range. The 5.11 Tactical Pants utilizes a proprietary weave that binds in on itself to prevent raveling. Double and triple-needle construction is utilized throughout, plus 48 bartacks in high-stress areas add to the tremendous strength of the tactical pants. For added durability, the magazine/cell phone pocket and corners of the slash pockets are lined with Cordura nylon. The double reinforced seat and knees provide enhanced abrasion protection, and interior knee slots are ready to accept 6mm neoprene kneepads. At the ankle hemline, built-in blousing strap openings can accommodate 500 cord. On the 5.11 Tactical Pants, we use only genuine, locking-flange YKK zippers and quality PRYM snaps, both of which are top-of-the-line in the industry. Additional quality hardware is found in the front, where a convenient D-ring holds your keys, or ID. The legendary fit of the 5.11 Tactical Pant is a closely-guarded secret based on a tried-and-true formula created 30 years ago from its mountaineering roots. Designed for active movement in changing conditions, the pants perform and look great on individuals of all shapes and sizes. This same superior fit is also found in the 5.11 Tactical Short, 5.11″. Available Colors: Black, Coyote, Tundra, OD Green, Fire Navy, Grey, Khaki.

Gerber Blades LMF II Infantry, Coyote Brown

Gerber Blades LMF II Infantry, Coyote Brown

$140.14

Down behind enemy lines? Left to fend for yourself? These are the scenarios that inspired the LMF II. Former military man, Jeff Freeman led the charge to engineer this fearless new 10 inch survival knife. And we field-tested with the troops. This knife is as adaptable as the personnel who carry it. Use it to cut through the skin of a fuselage. Or sever a seat belt. Or egress through the Plexiglas of a chopper. Plus, the LMF II does a slick job cutting firewood and building shelter. The over-molded handle successfully limits blistering. There is complete separation between the tang and butt cap, so the knife absorbs the shocks from hammering and prevents the shocks of electricity. Smartly situated grooves and lashing holes let the LMF II convert to a spear. The low-profile sheath facilitates movement, limits noise, works for parachuting, and attaches to a belt or Molle vest. The patented, integrated sharpener means edge retention in the field. Features: – Rugged, versatile survival tool – Lashing holes for use as spear – Low-profile sheath with built-in sharpener Specifications: – Overall Length: 10. 59 inch – Length of Blade: 4. 84 inch – Weight: 11. 4 oz. – Blade Material: 12C27 Stainless – Handle Material: Glass-filled nylon with TPV overmold – Blade Style: Drop Point – Sheath Material: Ballistic nylon with fire retardant coating – Blade Type: Serrated
